BSGCT Invites you to our next Public and Patient Engagement (PPE) talk.

In this talk, I will cover the pathway scientists follow to take a stem cell therapy from the lab into the hospital. I will focus on our efforts to develop a stem cell therapy for Hirschsprung disease: a congenital disease in which affected children are born missing a nervous system in a variable amount of the distal bowel. Our group is developing a cell therapy to replace these nerves and, hopefully, restore bowel function.

I am dedicated to understanding the processes involved in nerve damage and developing cell-based therapies to repair it. My work has covered spinal cord injury and Parkinson’s disease, and over the past five years I have focused on Hirschsprung disease, a congenital condition where children are born missing nerves in the distal bowel. I strongly believe that real progress in treating such conditions depends on bridging the gap between research and the lived experiences of patients and their families.
